Dr. Ellen Derrick
Board-Certified Surgeon
Health Outcomes Expert
Lipedema Advocate
About Me
I’m Dr. Ellen Derrick, a board-certified general and vascular surgeon and a board-eligible obesity medicine specialist. I also hold a Master of Public Health from the University of Washington, where I trained in real-world outcomes research through SCOAP and the CERTAIN Learning Health Network.
Lipedema Advocacy
Throughout my career, I’ve remained focused on a single goal: improving how we define, deliver, and measure care—especially for patients whose conditions have long gone overlooked. I’m particularly passionate about advancing care for individuals with lipedema and Dercum’s disease. These complex, under-recognized conditions demand more than symptom management—they require thoughtful, data-informed approaches that treat the whole person.
My Mission
My mission is twofold: to provide exceptional, compassionate care to every patient I meet, and to help shape a healthcare system where outcomes matter—where we can demonstrate that the care we provide makes a meaningful difference not just in symptoms, but in people’s lives.
Speaking Engagements
In addition to my clinical and research work, I regularly lecture to hospital-based obesity departments and medical teams, helping them better recognize and care for patients with lipedema. By raising awareness and sharing evidence-based strategies, I aim to improve diagnosis, treatment, and long-term outcomes on a broader scale.
Redefining Lipedema Care
Through collaboration, research, education, and advocacy, I’m working to redefine what quality care looks like for lipedema and Dercum’s disease—and to ensure those living with these conditions feel truly seen.
